Why Ronald McDonald House Charities?
Ronald McDonald House Charities® provides a “home away from home” for families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive medical treatment. Portland’s two Houses provide a setting in which families connect with other families, and children can meet other children going through a similar experience. During their visit, guests stay in comfortable and lovingly decorated private rooms where they can get a peaceful night’s rest, knowing their child is close by.
Why Pull tabs and not the entire can?
RMHC® collects pull tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because the tabs are pure high-quality aluminum, unlike cans, which consist of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store than whole cans.
How are pull tabs turned into money?
After the tabs are collected, a recycling company picks them up and takes them to a local recycling center, where they are weighed to determine their value (varies from 30-50 cents a pound). The recycling center then sends RMHC a check for the total value.
Get started collecting.
Pull the tabs from your soda or other beverage cans, soup cans, pet food cans, tennis ball containers, etc. Next, save them in any container. Place your collection container in a central location at home, work or school. When your container is full, you can drop off your pull tabs at either of Portland's two Ronald McDonald Houses, any day of the week during office hours.
